Tempestuous' goal is to make art available for all.
We help emerging artists by providing them economic and legal services that help them view their art as a valuable product on which to affix a price tag. We then help them understand how to interpret the art market, and occasionally adjust their strategy, both artistically and from a business perspective.
By working exclusively with emerging artists we are able to offer beautiful and unique pieces at affordable prices. Consider this, most artists never achieve financial success by selling their art. Rather, most are forced to work part-time, and frequently full-time positions in addition to creating their art. Think how long it would take you to become really good at your job if you had to work another job to pay the bills. Also consider how few people exist with innate, exceptional artistic talent. Simply by offering these artists the opportunity to promote and sell their work, we hope to help them establish a successful art career.
Tempestuous also helps professional artists by allocating a portion of the money earned on every sale to a fund that provides financial support to professional artists. This financial support is provided to full-time professional artists who demonstrate both a financial need and a practical use of the funds. We do this because we recognize that the fine art industry has historically depended on a benefactor (e.g., the Catholic Church for most of the last 1500 years), and that benefactor is no longer in a position to do so.
Help us to support the fine arts. We donate at least 10 percent of the retail price of all pieces we sell to our fund to help support artists. We say at least 10 percent because, while we are a for-profit company, we would like to make art available for all. To do so, most of the profit earned on pieces sold by Tempestuous go to the artist. Since we want art to remain affordable so we don't increase prices to account for paying our artists more, we have very small profit margins. Therefore, in a similar manner to CEO compensation at the big companies, the amount of money we earmark for the fund to support professional artists is entirely dependent on Tempestuous' success. That is, the more artwork we sell, the more money we can give to innovative, yet financially hard-shipped, artists, as a percentage of revenue. However, we vow never to give less than 10 percent of the sales price.. In other words, we are treating gifted artists as if they are CEOs of the art world.
Let's help keep fine art a product of the masses, while supporting those rare, amazingly gifted artists among us.
